Fall 2017
The Valencia HS Sports Med program has partnered with Henry Mayo Hospital, SCOI, Vargo PT, Sarah Erhsam ATC and Chad Peters ATC at COC and DJ Jahng, “DJ”, of So Cal PT. DJ visits our classroom two days a week to treat our athletes and work with our sports med students. The advanced student trainers here at VHS are required to perform 120 hours of service for each semester they are in the program. These hours include working with a sports team or working in the classroom after school. Our partners have also allowed our students access to their facilities. We now have an articulation with COC, which allows a student who graduates from the entire program the ability to skip the introduction athletic training class at COC and continue in there program.
The Sports Med students are the work force of this program. Our “Black Shirts” are the student athletic trainers who are applying their textbook knowledge or first year students, while the “Purple Shirts” are the head student trainers, our "Gray Shirts" are training to be leaders next year, both work with most of the varsity sports on campus as well as some lower levels throughout the year. Promoting the health and safety of all student athletes on campus and those visiting Valencia High School is the primary focus of Valencia High School’s Sports Medicine Program.
